The Story Behind the Cakes
I first established Izzy's Cakes in May 2020. Lockdown wasn't easy for anyone, I was in my last year of sixth form working towards my final A Level exams at the time the pandemic hit. Suddenly these were cancelled and plans for my last year at school disappeared and I was left with a lot of uncertainty. But most importantly of all TIME!
Creating a productive routine was really important for my mental health and stability. Therefore I decided to pick up some of my old hobbies... baking! Of course I followed the social media trends, there were lots of banana breads and sourdoughs to begin with but my passion for the industry didn't stop there I was constantly looking for new ways to improve my skills and build my social media presence.

I began making cupcake boxes as thank you's for local key workers and neighbours who shared toilet rolls! Very quickly I learnt how rewarding it was to see genuine smiles on faces especially in such a difficult time. This drove me to practice more, post more and take on new opportunities. On May 1st I delivered my first bespoke birthday cake charging £15 which barely covered the cost of ingredients.
Since then it has been a journey...I have built strong relationships with customers, developed new decorative skills and recipes, pushed myself out of my comfort zone with orders, worked on new marketing schemes, built a significant brand identity online and single handedly built a profitable enterprise. Most importantly of all I have learnt self worth...
